As the temperatures drop and the holiday season heats up, don’t we deserve a little something extra to help us celebrate? A fantastic holiday cup of coffee will undoubtedly keep our energy buzzing, but why not pour in an extra dose of fun (a.k.a alcohol) and keep those spirits extra high?
Many of these recipes are fantastic year-round, but we’ve compiled seven of our favorite boozy coffee drinks created with the winter chill in mind. Let’s get drinking!
The Irish Coffee (pictured at top) is a wintertime staple that’s become an international classic for a reason. Simple and delicious with a serious bite there’s no doubt that you’ll warm up in no time. Make sure to make it the real deal by only using whiskey made in the Emerald Isle like Jameson, Tullamore D.E.W. or Bushmill’s.
2 tsp Brown sugar
8 oz Coffee
1 1/2 oz of your favorite Irish whiskey
Whipped Cream, optional
Pour hot coffee into a glass. Blend in brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Pour in Irish whiskey and stir until well blended. If desired, add a dollop of whipped cream for extra sweetness.
Searching for a simple drink with a touch of sophistication? Then you can’t go wrong with this nutty holiday pick-me-up. Though it tastes great with most varieties of coffee, we especially love it with darker brews like our deep, smoky Captain’s Roast.
8 oz Hot coffee
1 1/2 oz. Amaretto liqueur
Whipped cream, optional
Cocoa powder, optional
Pour hot coffee into a cup or glass. Add the Amaretto liquor and thoroughly blend. If desired, top with whipped cream and a dash of cocoa. Some also enjoy it with cinnamon or almond slivers.
Get classy with a drink sure to take any holiday soirée to the next level. These espresso martinis are exquisitely smooth and evoke uptown cosmopolitan vibes—even if you live in the Hawaiian Islands like us.
1 1/2 oz. Kahlúa
1/2 oz. Simple syrup
1 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Espresso or strong cold brew
Place all ingredients into a metal shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Pour into a chilled martini glass. For an extra dose of fanciness, dust lightly with crushed coffee beans.
Crockpot Spiked Gingerbread Latte
Getting prepped to throw a Christmas party to remember? Then join in on the fun as much as possible rather than spending all night playing bartender. That’s why we love making boozy beverages in crockpots. What’s better than setting it and forgetting it?
Ingredients (for 5 quarts or larger pot)
4 cups Strong coffee
5 cups Whole milk
1 tsp Allspice
2 tsp Nutmeg
1 tbsp Ground ginger
2 tbsp Pure vanilla extract
2 tbsp Ground cinnamon
⅓ cup Brown sugar
7 ounces vanilla vodka
7 ounces Kahlúa
Combine all ingredients, except whipped cream, into the crockpot and thoroughly blend. Turn crockpot onto low heat for approximately 3–4 hours before serving. Serve with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon.
Spiked Peppermint Mocha
Few flavors evoke the holiday season like chocolate and peppermint. Create a winter wonderland—with a little extra kick—in your cup with this easy, delicious recipe.
2 cups Coffee
2 cups Whole milk
4 oz Semisweet chocolate powder
1 ½ oz Peppermint vodka
Crushed candy cane
Combine coffee, milk, peppermint vodka and chocolate in a carafe or similar container. Stir until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Pour into cups or mugs and top with whipped cream and a sprinkling of crushed candy canes.
Spiked Eggnog Mocha
Is anything more Christmas than creamy, decadent eggnog? How about eggnog with a splash of rum, hot cocoa and coffee to keep you and your loved ones merrily buzzing? We suggest it with our lighter Merdian Roast.
1 cup Hot coffee
1/2 cup Eggnog
1 1/2 oz Spiced rum
2 tbsp Semi-sweet cocoa powder
Stir together coffee, spiced rum and eggnog. Once thoroughly mixed, stir in cocoa powder until fully dissolved. Finish with a garnish of cocoa powder.
Hot Buttered Rum with Coffee
This toasty, traditional winter recipe is fun to make—and even more fun to drink. Patience is necessary to let the spiced butter fully harden, but make a big enough batch and you can enjoy this concoction far past the first thaw of the season.
8 tbsp Salted butter
1 cup Brown sugar
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Ground cloves
1/2 tsp Ground ginger
1/4 tsp Ground nutmeg
4 cups Hot coffee
2 oz. Dark rum
2 oz. Butterscotch schnapps
Splash of Half & half
Beat the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and nutmeg in a small bowl until smooth and creamy. Chill in the refrigerator 20-30 minutes or until fully hardened.
Scoop a heaping spoonful of spiced butter into a coffee mug. Pour coffee over butter and stir until butter completely melts. Add rum and schnapps and mix. Finish with a splash of half & half and a dash of nutmeg.
