One of the best places in the world to be during the fall is in Hawaii. The temperatures in Kona, Hawaii in the fall months hover around the mid-80’s during the day and rarely fall into the 60’s at night. These temperatures are ideal for evening activities, dinners outside, and walks on the beautiful beaches. And because the weather is ideal during the fall months, there are always things to do.

Between events, excursions, and general outdoor activities, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy what the island has to offer during the fall months.

Let’s take a look at just some of the events and activities you can take advantage of during the fall months in Kona, Hawaii.

Events in Kona, Hawaii this Fall

Of course there are going to be some events revolving around coffee, but in addition to that, there are also some great festivals and fairs that you should check out this fall if you can.

Kona Pride Festival – Sept 16-18th

Kona Pride 2022 is being celebrated from September 16-18th with a number of different events over the course of the weekend.

Friday kicks off with drinks at Don’s Mai Tai Bar in the Royal Kona Hotel followed by a glow party at My Bar which will also feature a drag show. Saturday is the main event with the Kona Pride Festival starting at 1pm at the King Kamehameha Beach Hotel followed by Lady Bunny at Ola Brewery and an after party back at My Bar.

The weekend culminates with a Sunday brunch at the King Kamehameha Beach Hotel. If you’re looking to celebrate your pride, this is the best weekend to do so in Kona, Hawaii!

World Manta Day Festival – Sept 17

If the Kona Pride Festival isn’t your scene, then why not make your way over to the Outrigger Kona Resort & Spa where they will be hosting a World Manta Day Festival.

This festival starts at 9am with a coastal cleanup at Kailua Pier in downtown Kona and then continues on at the Outrigger Kona Resort & Spa. Guest will be able to listen to local experts and guest speakers talk about the mantas as well as participate in crafts and a screening of the short film “Mission Manta”.

If you’re an animal lover and looking to learn more about the Mantas that swim in our oceans, this is a great opportunity.

Volcano Art Center’s Forest Fair – Oct 8

The Volcano Art Center is “a non-profit educational institution dedicated to nurturing creative discovery, learning and sharing through arts education and artistic development”.

The Niaulani Forest Fair & Train Enhancement is a one-day celebration of Hawaii’s healthy native forest. The event runs from 10am – 3pm and features the Niaulani Trail programs with vendors, displays, free forest tours, plant and books ales.

Hawaii Food & Wine Festival – Oct 21-Nov 6

It doesn’t get much better than the Hawaii Food and Wine Festival (except may a coffee festival). This premiere festival is a ticketed event that features more than 150 internationally known chefs, culinary personalities, and winemakers over the course of 2 weeks.

There are daily events that cater to all walks of life and all different palates. This is a great opportunity to try all sorts of foods, wines and cocktails from a variety of different authorities in the culinary space.

If you’re a foodie, or you love wine and cocktails, this is the premiere event of the year that you won’t want to miss.

Keep in mind, these events are ticketed events and you will have to purchase tickets for each event in advance.

Kona Coffee Cultural Festival – Nov 4-13th

We would be remiss if we did not include at least one coffee centric event on this list, and if we’re going to include one, it would definitely be the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival.

This festival features 10 days of food and coffee, so if wine isn’t your thing, then skip out on the Food and Wine Festival and make your way here! You’ll be able to taste coffee from all over the Kona area and learn more about what makes Kona coffee so special.

But wait, this festival is about more than just coffee. You’ll also get to enjoy things like the Lantern Parade, Cultural activities and demonstrations, a talent night, and even a half marathon, not to mention countless other events and activities.

If there’s one thing we would recommend out of all the events on this list it would be the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, the longest running food festival in Hawaii!
